Clone a bot

How to clone a bot?

Tired of creating the same bot again & again for different channels? Well, i-genie has got your back. We offer a simple method to clone an existing bot.

We know that there are different channels the business is engaged in and building the same bot again for different channels can be time consuming.

In-order to avoid this, we support cloning of bots from one channel to another

Pre-requisites:

One of the most important conditions to be met is that the bot needs to be deployed at least once to be able to clone the bot. Reason being we consider the deployed version to copy its flow diagram

How do I clone my bot?

In-order to clone the bot, you can follow the following steps

Step 1: Sign-in into your i-genie account, go to bot builder & hover mouse pointer over the bot you want to clone

You will only be able to close the bot if it is deployed. Your bot is said to be deployed if you see last modified time below the bot name

Step 2: Click on ‘Menu’ to see the list of actions that can be performed on this bot
Step 3: Click on ‘Clone’ & select the channel you want to clone your bot to
Step 4: Once the channel is selected, the selected bot will be cloned and the cloned bot with a prefix ‘Copy of’ will be created at the end of the list

Points to remember while configuring the channel:

While configuring the channel, there are severals points that you will need to keep in mind as each channel has its own limitations

Due to limitations of each channel, some action blocks compatible with one channel may not work in another. So you would be required to replace the non-compatible action blocks with some other action blocks.

For instance, “Buttons” are supported on the web channel however the same are not supported for the WhatsApp channel. In this scenario, if the user is cloning the bot to WhatsApp channel, he/she will have to replace all the “Buttons” action blocks with the “Options” action block as Options are supported on WhatsApp channel

Once the bot is cloned, and when you open it, if there are non-compatible action blocks, then you will see a warning modal letting you know that you need to replace the non-compatible action blocks with a compatible one

Once you click on “Understood Thanks”, you will get access to the canvas. The action blocks that need to be changed or are supported with the channel will be having an explanation mark on the top of them in yellow

You can also get the list of errors present in the bot by using the error bugging button which is at the top right corner
